High Speed Device-to-Device Contactless Connectivity

As mobile and consumer products become smaller, thinner and sleeker, streamlining device-to-device communications becomes more and more challenging. Equally important is communication within the mobile device to enable increasing data transmission from the display, camera and other key modules without physical cables or connectors. Simplification of it all is critical to both data transmission speed, cost and performance.

High Speed Device-to-Device Contactless Connectivity

That’s why Molex has acquired powerful new technology to enable it. Molex’s Keyssa contactless connectors for near-field device-to-device communications operate at data rates up to 6 Gbps on the 60 GHz band with no WiFi or Bluetooth interference. The tiny, low-power, low-latency, solid-state contactless connectors can solve critical data transmission needs with minimal overhead and also alleviate concerns over pairing, power consumption and reliability. Design for manufacturability is also enhanced with fully encased, dust- and waterproof packaging with wide alignment tolerances.

Ideal for high volume mobile and consumer devices, our wireless chip-to-chip technology enables increased data rate transmission with the ability to consolidate multiple connection points into one, reducing total system cost and improving performance. It also frees up valuable space inside end-devices to support the sleek designs of tomorrow.

Solid State Contactless Board-to-Board Connectors

  • Current data rates up to 6Gbps on the 60GHz band
  • No Wi-Fi or Bluetooth interference
  • Low power consumption
  • Extremely low latency
  • Simple and secure point-to-point connection
  • Instantaneous connection without cables,
    software, or pairing
  • Dust- and waterproof
  • Built in signal aggregation for low- and high-speed signals leveraging Virtual Pipe I/O (VPIO) technology

Virtual Pipe I/O

Aggregating low- and high-speed signals for simultaneous transmission over one or more links, VPIO helps compensate for real-time events that impact link performance integrity. When combined with contactless connectors, VPIO creates scalable and efficient I/O free from the limitations of mechanical connectors.

  • Real-time monitoring and adaption
  • Reduced EMI/RFI
  • Extended signal distance

Building on the Foundation

Leveraging our longstanding signal integrity expertise and mmWave antenna capabilities, Molex will drive further advancement of the Keyssa contactless connector technology and commercialize next generation products to address emerging application areas. From smart factories and advanced automotive safety to medical robotics and more, critical new applications will benefit from the expanding micro solutions portfolio and capability set aimed at supporting complex and rapidly changing customer requirements.
